What does a tummy tuck scar look like?
Abdominoplasty operations leave a permanent scar, usually across the lower abdomen. Our surgeons makes every effort to place the scar so it is well hidden. They typically make the incision on the bikini line, so it is not visible in most swimwear or undergarment styles. The surgery may also leave a scar around the belly button, except for mini tummy tucks.
How long is recovery after tummy tuck surgery?
Most patients return to light activities in 2–3 weeks. Full recovery (strenuous exercise) takes 6–8 weeks. You'll see final results within 3–6 months.
Can I have a tummy tuck instead of weight-loss surgery?
Abdominoplasty is not a substitute for losing weight through regular physical activity and a balanced diet. If you are significantly overweight, we recommend signing up for our weight loss program to get you down to a reasonably healthy BMI and maintain a stable weight before your procedure. A tummy tuck is an excellent way to contour and tone the abdomen following bariatric surgery or massive weight loss.
Do I need liposuction or a tummy tuck?
A tummy tuck is ideal for patients with excess skin and/or separated abdominal muscles. Patients with good skin elasticity and isolated areas of fat may only require liposuction.
Can I get pregnant following a tummy tuck?
A tummy tuck will not affect your ability to conceive, although you may want to hold off on booking the surgery until you have finished building your family. Take steps to avoid getting pregnant within the first year to allow the abdomen to heal.
Can a tummy tuck repair an umbilical hernia?
Umbilical hernia repair is an additional procedure that we can combine with your tummy tuck surgery. Umbilical hernia surgery alone will not repair separated abdominal muscles, therefore patients often choose to add umbilical hernia repair to their tummy tuck surgery rather than seeing a general surgeon.
