A Simple Gesture of Self Care

Dysport gives us the ability to express ourselves without worrying about worry lines. “Frown lines,” “Crow’s Feet,” and “11 lines” are all wrinkles that form from repeated facial expressions. Dysport gives our facial muscles a little break from developing fine lines and wrinkles, while still letting us express ourselves. Convenience and cost-effectiveness make Dysport an easy treat for ourselves; a way for us to enjoy a simple, non-surgical answer for temporary relief of fine lines and wrinkles.

What is Dysport?

Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA) temporarily paralyzes the muscles in the areas it is injected. The muscles’ decreased ability to contract prevents the face from creating the expressions which cause fine lines such as “crow’s feet” or “11” lines (named such because of the two vertical lines which often form between the eyebrows). Dysport works in a similar process to Botox and is an alternative to help reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.

How does Dysport work?

Dysport works by (temporarily) relaxing the muscles which contribute to the development of fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and at the corners of the eyes. The relief from the relaxation of the muscles creates visible smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles. It can also help temporarily prevent existing lines from deepening.

What should I do after Dysport injections to maximize results?

Within the first 30 minutes following your treatment, it is a good idea to exercise the muscles which you would like to target with Dysport. You can do this by making facial expressions such as squinting, frowning, or raising your eyebrows. It is important to avoid lying down or engaging in strenuous exercise for at least four hours to ensure the best results. Do not massage the treatment area for 24 hours after your procedure. It’s best to have your facial treatment before Dysport or one week after.

What is the difference between Dysport and Botox?

While Dysport and Botox work in the same way, there are some subtle differences between the two. Due to more variability in its molecular weight, Dysport can spread further across the treatment area. This allows Dysport to be delivered to a larger area, providing more even and widespread results. Dysport also has smaller protein particles which may contribute to its faster onset compared to Botox. While both can be used to treat various areas of the face, Dysport is often preferred for forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet due to its ability to cover more area underneath the skin.

What are the side effects of Dysport injections?

Side effects from Dysport injections are mild, and many patients do not report any adverse effects with treatment. However, the most common side effects caused by Dysport are injection site reactions, headache, or bruising.

How long should I go between treatments?

Dysport results typically last between two and four months but can last longer in some patients. Most patients choose to schedule their treatments about three months apart, but the suggested time varies between individuals depending on how long it takes for results to wear off.
