Who should not receive Restylane?

Patients with a history of severe allergic reactions or who are allergic to Restylane ingredients such as lidocaine or Gram-positive bacterial proteins should not receive Restylane injections. Patients who are taking blood-thinning medications should also not receive Restylane.

How long does it take for results to appear?

An increase in volume can be seen immediately upon Restylane injection, though full results take about 2 weeks to develop. Patients can also expect to see a gradual improvement in their skin’s condition in treatment areas for several months following injections.

What are the side effects of Restylane?

Injection site reactions such as pain, itching, swelling, or bruising may occur but typically resolve within two weeks. Other possible side effects include infection, allergic reaction, and unevenness in the filler.

What should be avoided after Restylane?

Patients should avoid lying down for four hours following treatment, and should avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for at least 12 hours. Exercise should be avoided for 24 hours to ensure the best results. Certain medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, aspirin, St. John’s wort, warfarin, clopidogrel, and high doses of Vitamin E can cause worsened bleeding and/or bruising and should be avoided for one week following treatment.
