Dr. Wasicek grew up in a small town near Syracuse, NY.

He attended college at Colgate University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in chemistry.

He subsequently attended the University of Rochester for medical school, graduating with distinction in research and community service.

Dr. Wasicek’s path to becoming a plastic surgeon has been through rigorous training and education. He completed his general surgery internship at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital and his residency at the University of Maryland. During this time, he was chosen as Chief Surgical Resident at the RA Cowley Shock Trauma Center. For his unwavering dedication to service, he was awarded the Senior Resident Teaching Award at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Wasicek is presently training at the University of Pittsburgh, currently ranked as the #1 plastic surgery training program in the US (Doximity rankings 2023-2024), and is part of the plastic surgery training review committee there.

He has had the opportunity to work with and learn from leaders in the field, including two past presidents of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

A mind for innovation

Dr. Wasicek is committed to staying at the forefront of medicine and plastic surgery. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles and book chapters and has presented his work at numerous national conferences. He has served as an ad hoc reviewer for a dozen scientific journals and is a current section review editor for the reconstructive and plastic surgery section of Frontiers in Surgery.

Philosophy and approach

Early personal experiences had a significant impact on Dr. Wasicek’s desire to become a plastic surgeon. The first occurred when he was bitten by a dog as a child. A plastic surgeon operated and was able to erase virtually all signs that the accident occurred through a precision-oriented technique and inconspicuous scarring. Dr. Wasicek learned firsthand the enormous difference that a compassionate, skilled surgeon can make in the lives of patients. The second key experience that led Dr. Wasicek to practice medicine was when a family member was born with craniofacial differences. Owing to the transformative effect of plastic surgery, they were able to grow up and live a normal life, free from stigma and self-consciousness.

Dr. Wasicek views plastic surgery as a mix of engineering and artistry. He finds the field intellectually rewarding because of the variety of clinical problems and solutions employed. Each patient and procedure have their own unique challenges and require individualized strategies. Plastic surgery is also an ever-evolving field and requires continued learning and innovation. Dr. Wasicek has cultivated technical excellence and a hyper-critical eye, with attention to the smallest details in order to achieve optimal results. He has developed a deep appreciation for the profound impact that restoring and improving form and function can have on a patient’s confidence and ability to interact with the world.
