Breast revision procedure varies according to the condition of the breasts and the patient’s goals. It is recommended to wait at least 6 months following your initial surgery to undergo breast revision surgery.
It is not necessary to replace breast implants simply because a certain number of years have passed.
When a silicone implant leaks, the silicone escapes the implant. Newer implants contain a silicone gel which is more viscous than that of older implants and is less likely to travel throughout the body. The FDA recommends MRI scans every three years to check for silicone implant ruptures.
When a saline implant ruptures, the saline leaks out over several days and the implant slowly shrinks. Saline is not harmful to the body and poses no health threat in case of implant rupture, however, it is still important for your saline implants to be removed or replaced immediately in the event of rupture.
Implants may move in the years following breast augmentation due to factors such as body type, implant size, implant type, and the integrity of the pocket within which they were placed.
