Can I Combine a Blepharoplasty procedure with Lasik in One Surgery?
Can Lasik surgery be combined with Blepharoplasty surgery? I would rather only have one surgery but I want both procedures...Would it be hard to find a doctor who can do both?
Lasik and blepharoplasty - not a safe combination
The mechanics of the two procedures are in conflict with each other, making them unsafe to perform simulatenously. Blepharoplasty requires manipulation of the eyelids and there can be post-op swelling which would compromise your ability to protect the eye as is critical post-Lasik. Lasik surgery requires holding the eyelids open which would compromise the lid repair performed during blepharoplasty. The risks of combining these procedures significantly increase the chances of blindness - an extremely serious complication. In our practice we would not recommend combining these procedures. I hope this helps.
Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) removes excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids. Upper blepharoplasty addresses hooding that can impair peripheral vision. Lower blepharoplasty targets under-eye bags and puffiness. Recovery is relatively quick, with most patients returning to normal activities within 7–10 days.
When evaluating any cosmetic procedure, choosing a surgeon who operates in an accredited surgical facility is one of the most important safety decisions a patient can make.
