Does CoolSculpting Give Satisfactory Long-term Removal of Cellulite?

CoolSculpting is used to reduce visible fat bulges in specific treatment areas, not as a weight-loss treatment. The applicator suctions your skin and underlying fat into the applicator where the cooling panels freeze the fat cells. The fat cells then die and are eliminated through your body, with results typically appearing over the following one to four months. Each cycle of CoolSculpting generally reduces 20-25% of the fat cells in the treated area. It is not effective for the treatment of cellulite.

Clinical Context

Cellulite and simple fat bulges can look similar on the surface but come from different sources. A fat bulge is added tissue volume that responds to shrinking fat cells. Cellulite is mostly a structural issue: fibrous septae running from the skin down to the fascia pull unevenly, creating dimples no matter how much fat sits beneath them. Treatments aimed at those bands work through a different mechanism than fat-reduction tools, which is why a device built to shrink fat cells can leave dimpling untouched, or even more visible once the fat layer thins.
