Does Zeltiq Get Rid of Cellulite?
CoolSculpting is designed to reduce visible fat bulges in specific treatment areas, not to remove weight overall. It does not remove cellulite. Cellulite is due to the connective tissue structures that cause dimpling of the skin, and CoolSculpting does not affect these structures.
The dimpling comes from fibrous bands beneath the skin pulling down while fat pushes up between them, and cooling the fat cells does nothing to release those bands. So even after a successful CoolSculpting treatment, where you'll typically notice a gradual reduction in fullness over one to three months, the skin texture and dimpling in that area will look about the same. If smoother skin texture, not just fat reduction, is what you're after, bring that up at your consultation so we can talk about treatments that actually target those connective bands.
Clinical Context
Cellulite's dimpled look comes from fibrous bands called septae that connect skin to underlying tissue, pulling down while fat pushes up between them. CoolSculpting reduces fat volume but doesn't act on these bands, so it won't smooth dimpling. Treatments aimed at cellulite work differently, targeting the connective bands themselves rather than fat. If smoother skin texture is the goal, ask your provider about options designed specifically for cellulite rather than fat reduction.
