I Take Zyrtec for Hives After Reacting to a Medication - Is This a Contraindication to Zeltiq?
Zyrtec is not a contraindication to treatment, although you may want to make sure your hives have resolved prior to treatment if there are lesions in the area of treatment. It is always best to have a consultation to determine if you are a candidate for CoolSculpting.
Clinical Context
Taking Zyrtec for a past drug reaction doesn't itself rule out CoolSculpting - the medication isn't the concern, and controlled histamine levels don't affect fat freezing. What matters is whether your skin is currently reacting: active hives, rashes, or irritation in the treatment area can interfere with the applicator's contact and your ability to feel temperature and pressure changes during treatment. Once your skin has fully cleared and you're no longer having flare-ups, having a history of drug-induced hives on antihistamine control typically isn't a barrier to moving forward.
