Is it possible to have permanent negative effects after Restylane Refyne injection cannula technique in tear troughs/under eyes?
It's difficult to give an exact answer without examining you in person but here are some generalizations: 1) the under eye area is very delicate and takes at least 2 weeks for the product to settle and smoothen. Restylane refyne will attract water to the area, as all HA fillers do to some extent, and the area can seem puffy, especially first thing in the morning after treatment. I would encourage you to allow this time for healing before proceeding with any other interventions. 2) Restylane refyne is a hyaluronic acid (HA) and therefore can be dissolved if you do not like the final aesthetic result. Hyaluronidase (the dissolver) dissolves any HA that it comes in contact with so if you decide to proceed with dissolving, you will likely have the whole treatment area dissolved versus "spot dissolving" as it is difficult to control how much dissolution will occur. Either way, please follow up with your injector at 2 weeks to discuss your concerns.
Clinical Context
Puffiness after tear trough filler is usually from the hyaluronic acid drawing in water, not from too much product or bad placement — this settles over one to two weeks. True complications are rare but serious: sudden severe pain, skin turning white or dusky, or vision changes need immediate medical attention, not a wait-and-see approach. Everything short of that is worth discussing with your injector at your follow-up rather than judging too early or seeking dissolving right away.
