Is Sculptra Ok to Use in Someone Who Has a Tendency to Hypertrophic Scars?
It is unusual to have scarring problems from needle injections unless there is an infection or significant hematoma (blood clot) caused at the same time. Hypertrophic scars from Sculptra injections would be extremely unusual.
The reason is that hypertrophic scars form when a deeper injury damages the lower layers of skin and triggers an exaggerated healing response. A fine needle just leaves a tiny puncture that seals itself without needing that kind of repair process. So a history of thick scarring from cuts or surgery doesn't automatically put you at higher risk with Sculptra. After treatment you may notice small bumps or firmness under the skin for a few weeks, which is normal as the product stimulates collagen. If you notice redness, swelling, or a lump that grows or feels warm, mention it to your physician right away so it can be checked.
