Kenalog Injections Possible for Gynecomastia?
"Over-injecting" any medication is dangerous. Steroids can cause tissue atrophy as you've noted but it can cause atrophy to skin and is somewhat unpredictable. At best you'd get uneven lumpy results, at worse, open wounds, infection and tissue necrosis. Large doses of steroids can also cause systemic problems as well. Determine the cause of your gynecomastia (usually idiopathic) and consider ultrasonic assisted liposuction as a treatment from a board-certified plastic surgeon.
Clinical Context
Kenalog (triamcinolone) is a corticosteroid sometimes used off-label to shrink glandular breast tissue, but its effects on skin and fat aren't confined to the treated area. Steroid-related tissue thinning can spread unevenly, causing dimpling, discoloration, or open sores in some patients. High or repeated doses can also affect hormone levels elsewhere in the body. Because of these risks, most plastic surgeons recommend first identifying the cause of gynecomastia, then treating it surgically—often with liposuction—rather than relying on steroid injections.
