Stomach Pain After Zeltiq (CoolSculpting)
Some pain and discomfort at treated areas after CoolSculpting is common and can last up to 2 weeks. Usually, the pain can be controlled with over the counter pain medication. Rarely, your doctor may have to prescribe some medication if the pain is more severe. Most people also experience numbness and itching. Applicator options vary and your provider selects the one suited to your treatment area, and larger applicators can sometimes cause more discomfort post-treatment than smaller ones. A strict diet is not required, but it would be a good idea to be conscious of your diet since you are making an investment. The fat cells that were destroyed during the treatment will slowly get processed out of your body and you should start seeing results in 1-4 months. In rare cases, a firm enlargement of the treated area called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia can develop and may need surgical correction, so any unusual firmness or growth should be reported. You should always contact the provider that treated you if symptoms worsen or persist.
Clinical Context
Mild soreness or cramping after CoolSculpting is expected as the treated fat cells respond to the cold and inflammation; this typically peaks within the first few days and then improves. Pain that worsens over time, or comes with fever, spreading redness, hard swelling, or skin changes, is not typical and should be checked by your provider. Deep or severe abdominal pain is different from normal surface soreness and deserves a call to your treating physician rather than waiting it out.
