Titan Laser - Is There a Risk of Burning or Scarring?
Titan uses infrared light energy to heat the deeper dermis and stimulate collagen remodeling, without directly targeting the skin's surface. Because of this, true scarring is uncommon, the energy is designed to bypass the epidermis. Burns are the more realistic risk, and they happen when the device settings are too aggressive for someone's skin type or when cooling isn't properly calibrated during treatment. A burn that goes deep enough can occasionally leave behind textural change or pigment alteration, which is really what patients are worried about when they ask about scarring.
Worth noting: Titan has largely fallen out of favor in most practices, newer radiofrequency and infrared skin-tightening devices have replaced it with more consistent, predictable results. If you're considering it, ask your provider how often they still use it and how experienced they are with it specifically, not just laser treatments in general. A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon can help you figure out whether a different, more current technology might serve you better.
Clinical Context
Titan and similar infrared skin-tightening devices work best for mild sagging in patients who aren't ready for surgery, not for significant volume loss or loose skin, which heat-based devices can't correct. Results are gradual and require realistic expectations about how much tightening is possible. If you're weighing Titan against newer options like radiofrequency microneedling or ultrasound-based tightening, ask how each compares for your specific skin type and goals, and how much downtime each involves.
