What is labiaplasty surgery?
It is important to discuss these questions with your provider and find a board-certified plastic surgeon. We perform labiaplasties typically under local anesthesia and conscious sedation. The procedure is relatively short and patients have little post-operative discomfort. There are dissolving sutures left in place and the incisions heal quite quickly. Patients typically are back to their routine (including sexual intercourse) at 3-4 weeks.
Clinical Context
Labiaplasty reshapes the labia minora, tissue with a delicate blood supply and sensitive nerve endings. Surgeons may trim excess tissue along the edge or remove a central wedge and rejoin the tissue—each approach heals a bit differently. Because this area stays warm and moist and experiences friction from movement and clothing, gentle hygiene and limited activity in the first few weeks are especially important for smooth healing and to reduce irritation or delayed healing at the incision.
