What Should Be Expected from a First Time Facial?

For any new patient a consultation should be done prior to any treatment being preformed. During this consultation the appropriate specialist will then perform a skin analysis. This is to determine the type of treatments needed to treat your skin concerns and needs. Facial treatments vary on where and who you are receiving it from. In our office we offer free consultations and a first time facial is usually a custom treatment. There is a double cleansing of the skin, followed by an exfoliant. Extractions are performed also if needed. This is followed with a face and neck massage to promote skin stimulation for cell turn over. Acne or inflamed skin conditions would not benefit from massage. A specified treatment mask is applied and to finish the facial appropriate treatment serums, creams, and SPF is applied.

Clinical Context

A facial is different from a chemical peel or laser treatment. Peels and lasers work at a deeper skin level and often involve downtime and visible peeling or redness afterward. A facial works on the surface, cleansing, gently exfoliating, and hydrating the skin without changing its deeper structure. It won't significantly fade dark spots or smooth deep texture the way a peel might. The skin analysis at the start helps your specialist recommend the right type of treatment for your specific goals.
