When Will Redness Be Gone After Vi Peel?
Let the skin flake off on its own. A VI Peel works by triggering a controlled chemical exfoliation of the outer skin layers, and picking at that process before it's finished disrupts the natural shedding, which can prolong redness and raise your risk of uneven pigmentation or scarring. Most patients see visible peeling begin within a few days and finish up within about a week, with residual pink or red tone fading over the following week or two as new skin resurfaces. Keep the treated area moisturized with the post-peel protectant provided in your kit, avoid picking or scrubbing, and stay diligent with sun protection since freshly peeled skin is more vulnerable to sun-induced pigment changes. If redness or flaking seems to be lasting longer than expected, or you're unsure what's normal for your skin type, check in with the provider who performed your peel so they can assess in person.
Clinical Context
A VI Peel uses a blend of acids to cause a controlled injury to the outer skin layers, prompting the skin to shed and reveal fresher tissue underneath. The redness that follows is a normal part of this healing response as new skin cells move to the surface. How quickly peeling starts and finishes can vary a bit from person to person, depending on skin type and how the skin was cared for before treatment.
