Will having a Breast lift make my breast appear smaller? What results can I expect if I get implants at a later date?

Yes, a breast lift often makes the breasts look smaller, even though we're not removing breast tissue, just excess skin. Tightening that skin envelope reshapes and elevates the breast, which reads visually as smaller. A trick to preview this: stand in front of a mirror, place your hands on the upper part of your breasts, and lift. Notice how much smaller they appear without removing anything.

If you add implants at a later date, you can restore or increase volume while keeping the lifted shape from your mastopexy. Many patients choose to stage these procedures, lift first, implants later, to let tissues heal and settle before adding volume. Others combine a lift with implants in one surgery if the anatomy and goals allow it. The right approach depends on your skin quality, breast tissue, and how much volume you want. Your plastic surgeon can walk through both options at a consultation and, with an exam, help you decide what sequencing makes sense for you.

Clinical Context

A breast lift repositions existing tissue and tightens skin; it doesn't remove volume, so implants can still be added later for size. Many surgeons prefer staging lift and augmentation separately, allowing tissue to heal and settle for a few months before adding an implant, which can improve predictability and reduce complication risk. Combined lift-and-implant surgery is also common when anatomy allows. Your surgeon will assess skin elasticity, tissue quality, and your goals to recommend the safest sequencing.
