Zeltiq CoolSculpting - Extreme Side Effects

Sometimes nerve pain can be a result of treatment with coolsculpting, especially with certain applicators, since applicator options vary and your provider selects the one best suited to the area being treated. The nerve pain can have a delayed and prolonged onset. Over the counter pain meds can be helpful, but you may also ask your provider if they recommend a prescription medication for nerve pain such as neurontin. Many patients also find relief with some compression on the area as well. I'm not sure the amount of pain is indicative of the result you will get at all, but all of the symptoms normally always get better with time. Definitely consult with your provider if things do not improve.

Clinical Context

Nerve-related discomfort after CoolSculpting is a recognized side effect, thought to occur when cold temporarily affects small nerve endings in the treated area. It often starts days after treatment rather than right away, and can last for weeks before resolving on its own as the nerves recover. This is different from typical post-treatment soreness or swelling. If pain is severe, doesn't improve over time, or interferes with daily activities, contact your treating provider.
