Are braces okay during breast aug?
Braces won't cause a problem for your planned breast augmentation. They're bonded to your teeth, so they won't shift or come loose during anesthesia, which is the main concern with anything in your mouth. Retainers or other removable oral appliances will need to come out during surgery, along with any clear aligners like Invisalign, since these can move, get damaged, or even be inhaled while the breathing tube is placed. Plan to bring a case to store your retainer or aligners the morning of surgery, and let us know at your consultation if you're unsure whether something you wear is fixed or removable.
Clinical Context
During general anesthesia, the anesthesia team places a breathing tube using a laryngoscope. Any loose object in the mouth—retainers, clear aligners, partial dentures—can shift, be damaged, or even be inhaled, so these need to come out before surgery. Fixed braces are bonded to the teeth and won't move, so they aren't a concern for the airway. If you wear clear aligners like Invisalign, remember these count as removable appliances too and should be taken out.
