Breast Uneven and Very Depressing
Some breast asymmetry at 18 days post-op is normal and too early to judge. Swelling resolves unevenly, and it typically takes a few months for the tissue to settle and the true shape to emerge. Give it at least three months before drawing conclusions.
In the meantime, taking a weekly photo in the same pose, lighting, and posture gives your surgeon useful data on how your breasts are changing as swelling comes down. Small differences in shoulder position or stance can throw off symmetry comparisons, so consistency matters.
Pre-op factors that influence symmetry include chest wall shape, breast mass, nipple position, degree of ptosis, and inframammary fold position. Post-op, your surgeon can adjust implant size, shape, position, and pocket to improve symmetry. Nipple position and fold asymmetry are harder to correct with implants alone and may need direct surgical adjustment.
A volume difference in the range of 20 to 40cc is often difficult to detect even for experienced surgeons. Don't despair yet. If real asymmetry persists past three to six months, discuss revision options with your plastic surgeon.
Clinical Context
It's common for breasts to swell and settle at different rates after augmentation, even when surgery went well. One side may look fuller or sit differently for weeks before things even out. This doesn't usually mean something went wrong—it's just how tissue and swelling resolve on their own timeline. Final shape and symmetry are best judged after the initial healing phase has passed, once swelling has fully subsided on both sides.
