Can a Chin Implant Be Custom Fit?
Yes. Chin implants come in a range of stock sizes and shapes, and most surgeons can further carve or trim a silicone implant on the table to fine-tune projection and contour for your particular jawline. If your anatomy is unusual, or a stock implant just won't get you there, a fully custom implant can be manufactured from a CT scan of your facial skeleton, essentially a 3D-printed mold matched to your bone. That route costs more and takes longer to produce, but it gives precise control over shape.
An alternative is a sliding genioplasty, where the surgeon cuts and advances your own chin bone rather than adding implant material. No foreign material, no capsule to worry about, but it is a different operation with its own recovery and risk profile.
Which option makes sense depends on your bone structure, skin thickness, and what you're trying to achieve. That's an exam-and-imaging conversation with a board-certified plastic surgeon, not something to sort out from photos alone.
Clinical Context
Implants and sliding genioplasty carry different risks. A chin implant sits over bone under the skin, so long-term concerns include shifting, a palpable edge in thin-skinned patients, and slow resorption of the bone beneath it. Genioplasty involves cutting and repositioning your own chin bone near the mental nerve, so the main risks are temporary or permanent numbness of the lip or chin and how well the bone segment heals. Skin thickness, chin height, and the amount of correction needed all factor into which option and imaging plan fits best.
