Can all board-certified plastic surgeons use Exparel?

While any new technique or medication should be accompanied by the proper training and education, Exparel works in a similar fashion to other local anesthetics which all plastic surgeons should be comfortable using.

Clinical Context

Exparel is a long-acting local anesthetic (liposomal bupivacaine) injected into tissue much like standard numbing medication, but released more slowly for extended pain relief. Any licensed surgeon can use it, but comfort and safe dosing come from hands-on experience, since giving too much local anesthetic carries its own risks. It's reasonable to ask your surgeon how often they use it and how they dose it for your specific procedure.
