Can Laser Hair Removal on the Scalp Damage the Eyes?

Is a hair removal laser (diode, 810 nm) capable of damaging the eye by going through the skull (for example, if used on the scalp or temple)? I am worried because infrared waves can pass through sold objects.

Laser Hair Removal and Eye safety

There are several effective wavelength lasers used for hair removal as well as IPL (which technically is NOT a laser). In our San Francisco area office we use ND-Yag which does a great job of hair removal on all skin types. Any of these devices can cause damage to eyes and should always be used with appropriate laser glasses for the patient and provider. When used properly in combination with appropriate safety glasses and procedures the risk of vision damage is practically zero. The scenario you describe would not cause damage to your eyes.
