Cheek Swollen 2 Years After Facelift

This sounds like there may be some scar tissue resulting from a residual hematoma or possibly fat necrosis. The important question is how best to restore balance and symmetry to your face. Depending on the underlying cause, treatment could include fat grafting to one side, scar revision or resection, or a combination of approaches. The key is to have this evaluated by a plastic surgeon who is experienced in facelift revision (redo) surgery, since correcting asymmetry after a facelift can be more complex than performing the initial procedure. This is something we see fairly often in our Dublin practice.

Clinical Context

Swelling that lasts this long after a facelift usually comes from one of a few causes: a fluid pocket that never fully resolved, fat grafting that didn't fully take, or scar tissue pulling on the tissue underneath. Comparing current photos to earlier ones can help show whether the area has changed shape or size over time, which helps guide whether the best next step is drainage, fat grafting, or scar revision.
