Drooped Eyelid After Dysport

While not much can be done when you have ptosis (drooping) due to Dysport, your doctor can prescribe an eye drop that can open the lid a few millimeters. You have to wait for the Dysport to wear off. While the Dysport can take 3-4 months to completely wear off, the ptosis usually does not last that entire time. Contact the person who performed your injections so that they can properly evaluate you.

Clinical Context

Eyelid position depends on two muscles: the levator palpebrae, which does most of the lifting and is controlled by a nerve unrelated to Dysport's target, and Müller's muscle, a smaller assistant muscle run by the sympathetic nervous system. Ptosis after a forehead or brow injection usually means a small amount of toxin diffused into the levator, weakening its pull. The eye drop your doctor prescribes doesn't touch the levator at all; it stimulates Müller's muscle instead, borrowing a few millimeters of lift from a completely different system until the levator recovers on its own.
