Dysport in the Same Quantity As Botox for the Same Result?
The number of units required for Dysport is different than the number of units required for Botox. The conversion is usually 2.5-3 Dysport units to 1 Botox unit. The usual amount recommended for Botox at the glabella is 20 units and with Dysport it is 50 units. The cost is very similar despite the unit conversion.
Clinical Context
Botox and Dysport are both botulinum toxin type A, but they're measured in different units, so doses aren't interchangeable — that's why more Dysport units are needed for the same effect. Some injectors feel Dysport spreads slightly more from the injection site, which can help treat broader areas like the forehead but requires careful placement near the brow or eyelid to avoid temporary heaviness. Both are considered safe when dosed by an experienced injector.
