Dysport Side Effects - What Are Common Complications?
The side effects with Dysport treatment is similar for that of Botox. With any injections, you may have pain, bleeding, bruising, swelling, redness at the injection site. Those symptoms are temporary. Some patients may experience a temporary headache as well. Rarely, patients may have ptosis (drooping) of their eyelids or eyebrows. While this is also a temporary side effect, it normally resolves in 4-6 weeks and does not last the full 3-4 months (which is the amount of time that Dysport normally lasts). It is always best to have a consultation with a provider to see if you are a candidate for treatment.
Clinical Context
Dysport is a botulinum toxin that temporarily blocks nerve signals to the treated muscle, which is why movement and wrinkles are reduced. Its formulation differs slightly from Botox, and some providers feel it may spread a bit farther from the injection site, so careful technique matters. If the toxin reaches nearby muscles, such as those controlling the eyelid, temporary drooping can occur until it wears off, usually within several weeks.
