Fraxel Failed to Work on my Acne Scars

Fraxel (any generation) is great for fine wrinkles. Deep acne scars are more challenging. The key is improvement. Some ablative laser techniques can improve even deep acne scars but be prepared for significant downtime (think weeks at home with a hoodie and sunglasses). The same applies for chemical peels and dermabrasion. Unfortunately scars are one of the most challenging things we face. Be careful of marketing promises and be sure to consult a board-certified Dermatologist, facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon.

Clinical Context

Fraxel is a fractional laser that creates tiny heat channels in the skin to stimulate new collagen. This helps fine lines and mild texture, but deep acne scars often need more. Rolling scars, caused by fibrous bands pulling the skin down, respond well to subcision. Icepick and boxcar scars, which have sharp, punched-out edges, may need punch techniques or ablative laser resurfacing. These deeper treatments can release scar tissue or rebuild lost volume in ways fractional lasers alone usually cannot.
