Going Back to Boxing After Tip Rhinoplasty?

Boxing is a high risk activity after rhinoplasty. We recommend that patients avoid high risk contact sports (karate, mixed martial arts and boxing) for 6 months to a year. Be advised that no amount of time will insure that a quick left to your nose won't cause problems.

Clinical Context

After tip rhinoplasty, the reshaped cartilage doesn't heal like skin — it relies on scar tissue forming around it to hold its new shape. That process takes months, and the framework remains vulnerable to force well after swelling has resolved. A direct blow to the nose during this time can shift or fracture the cartilage, or displace supporting grafts. When that happens, correction usually requires another surgery rather than simple repositioning.
