Help! 2 months ago, I got one syringe of Restylane on my tear trough. What should I expect?
At two months out, any initial swelling or bruising from the injection should be long gone, and you should be seeing the settled result. Restylane in the tear trough is a hyaluronic acid gel, and it typically lasts somewhere in the range of six months to a year in that area, sometimes longer since the tear trough moves less than areas like the lips. What you want to see now is smooth, even contour under the eye without lumps or a bluish tint showing through the thin skin there (called the Tyndall effect). If you're noticing bumps, discoloration, or puffiness that looks worse than before treatment, that suggests the product may be sitting too superficially or you're retaining fluid around it. The good news is hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, so problems can be corrected. An in-person exam with your injector, ideally a board-certified plastic surgeon, would clarify what you're seeing.
Clinical Context
The tear trough area is delicate: skin is thin, there's little muscle movement, and everyone's lymphatic drainage differs slightly. This means filler can look different from person to person, even with the same product and amount. If you notice a bluish tint (Tyndall effect), lumps, or puffiness, these usually mean the filler is too superficial or shifted slightly, not that it failed. Your injector can assess and adjust with reversal or additional product as needed.
