How do i know if my laser hair removal sessions are working?

After laser hair removal treatment, the hairs might appear to be growing. This is exfoliation/shedding of the hair and occurs for about 1-2 weeks after treatment. After the hairs have shed, you should notice reduction of hair density in the treated area. Some hairs may continue to grow back as they may not have been in the active growth phase at the time of treatment but overall regrowth should be much less than prior to treatment. Talk to your provider about your concerns as the laser treatment settings may need to be adjusted based on the hair thickness and skin type.

Clinical Context

Laser hair removal works best on dark, coarse hair against lighter skin, since the laser targets melanin in the hair shaft. Very light, fine, gray, or blonde hair, tanned skin, or recent sun exposure can make results less predictable. Some medications and skincare products that increase sun sensitivity may also affect how your skin responds. If results look uneven, your provider can adjust the laser settings to better match your hair and skin type at your next visit.
