Is a burning sensation and a blister normal after breast augmentation surgery?
Your plastic surgeon should absolutely be the first person you contact when you have a question or problem after surgery. There is no one who knows more about your procedure and you! That being said, it is likely that the burning sensation and blister is a reaction to either the dressings or possibly the prep solution used during the surgery. Some post-op pain is normal but if its something that seems like it is increasing, you should be seen by your plastic surgeon.
Clinical Context
A blister after surgery is usually a skin reaction, not a problem with the implant. Adhesive tape can rub or pull as swelling changes underneath it, causing a small blister where the top layer of skin lifts. Prep solutions used to clean the skin before surgery can also irritate sensitive areas. Watch for spreading redness, warmth, fever, or increasing pain, or skin that looks unusually pale or dark — these need prompt evaluation by your surgeon. A simple tape blister usually just needs gentler dressings.
