I have Excessive Vaginal Flatulence, Will ThermiVa Help?
Vaginal flatulence, or queefing, usually happens when air gets trapped in a lax vaginal canal and escapes with position changes or intercourse. ThermiVa uses radiofrequency energy to heat the vaginal and perineal tissue, which can stimulate collagen remodeling and tighten the canal somewhat. In theory, a tighter canal traps less air, so some patients notice improvement. That said, the evidence base here is still developing. Results are generally modest, temporary, and vary quite a bit between patients, so I would not oversell it as a fix for this specific complaint. Pelvic floor physical therapy is often a useful complementary approach, since weak or uncoordinated pelvic floor muscles are frequently the bigger driver of the problem. An in-person exam would help sort out whether laxity, muscle function, or both are contributing before recommending ThermiVa or another option. A board-certified plastic surgeon or urogynecologist can walk you through realistic expectations.
Clinical Context
ThermiVa's radiofrequency energy encourages the vaginal tissue to firm up gradually over several weeks, but it works on tone, not on the muscle coordination or air pathways that also contribute to queefing. Because the sensation depends on canal shape, muscle tension, and airflow together, tightening alone may not fully resolve it. A pelvic floor specialist can assess whether muscle function is part of the picture before you decide on any treatment.
