I Have Loose Skin on my Breasts. Would a Fat Transfer Make More Sense then Removing the Skin Itself?

In our San Francisco Bay Area practice, we routinely perform fat transfer for buttocks enhancement and breast enhancement. The challenge in your situation has to do with the amount of breast sag you have and the amount of excess skin. In most cases, fat transfer can't match the changes that a breast lift (mastopexy) can provide. Find a board-certified plastic surgeon familiar and experienced with both techniques and see what is right for you.

Clinical Context

Fat transfer adds volume to breast tissue, which can help when breasts have lost fullness but the skin still fits well. It does not tighten stretched skin, because the skin envelope stays the same size even as volume underneath increases. When skin has lost significant elasticity or the breast sags noticeably, a lift (mastopexy) removes and re-drapes the excess skin, which fat grafting cannot do. The right choice depends on how much of your concern is volume loss versus skin laxity, best assessed in person.
