I'm Scheduled For a Tummy Tuck While I'll Be On My Cycle, Should I Reschedule Surgery?
In our San Francisco Bay Area practice we do not require patients to reschedule their procedures due to menstruation. Cosmetic surgeries we perform do not involve the uterus so delaying treatment for this reason is unnecessary. As always, all questions regarding medical issues and surgery should be discussed with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon prior to surgery.
Clinical Context
Menstruation does not affect your surgery or recovery from a tummy tuck. What can matter is hormonal birth control—pills, patches, or rings containing estrogen can raise the risk of blood clots after surgery. Let your surgeon know if you use one of these so a plan can be made, which may include pausing it before your procedure. This is separate from where you are in your cycle, and it's the detail worth mentioning at your pre-op visit.
