Improving Marionette Lines with Lower Facelift?
A lower facelift is designed to address the neck and submental (beneath the chin) excess skin as well as the jowling which can contribute to the marionette lines. You should see a significant improvement but sometimes there can be some residual lines. Marionette lines that remain after a lower facelift are usually caused by the muscle that pulls the mouth corners downward (the depressor anguli oris) and by volume loss along the chin-to-mouth crease, not by the surgery itself. A facelift lifts and tightens skin and deeper tissue along the jawline, but it doesn't change muscle pull or restore lost fat.
