Is Dysport recommended for use on the vertical lines above the lips?

Dysport can be used off-label to treat vertical lip lines but depending on the severity of the lines, you may also need filler treatment. Dysport will paralyze some of the muscle fibers that cause lip lines when pursing the lips so if your lines are only present with animation, it may be a good option for you. If your lines are deeper and more noticeable at rest, you may also need filler to help give more support to the perioral structures. Other options include laser and/or chemical resurfacing. Consult with a board-certified injector to determine which treatment(s) are the best for your specific concern.

Clinical Context

Neuromodulators around the mouth are used more conservatively than in the forehead area because the muscle here (orbicularis oris) is needed for speech and closing the lips over teeth. Small, careful doses are used to soften lip lines without weakening lip function. Lines that only show up when you purse your lips often respond well to Dysport, while lines still visible when your face is relaxed usually need added volume from filler for full improvement.
