Yes — swelling and tightness after breast augmentation are normal and expected. The implant stretches the skin and, when placed under the muscle, the pectoral muscle itself, which is why the breasts feel tight and often sit high at first. Swelling generally improves over the first few weeks, and the implants typically drop and soften over the following months as the tissues relax and make room. The exception worth knowing about: if one breast becomes suddenly larger, more painful, or more bruised than the other, that can signal a hematoma — a collection of blood around the implant — and you should call your surgeon promptly rather than wait it out. Short of that, patience and close follow-up with your plastic surgeon are what this stage of recovery calls for.
