I've already shaved my moustache with a razor for the first time, will it grow back thicker?

Despite what many people think, shaving your hair does not make it grow back thicker. Hair that has not been shaved will be tapered toward the end (thinner at the end compared to the base). When you shave your hair, it grows back with a blunt end making it feel thicker than prior to shaving but the actual follicle diameter is unchanged. If you have dark hairs, you may be a good candidate for laser hair removal for a longer-lasting reduction of undesired hair growth.

Clinical Context

Shaving cuts hair straight across, so regrowth has a blunt tip instead of a natural taper. That blunt edge feels coarser and can look darker, which is why people think shaving makes hair grow back thicker. But shaving happens above the skin — it doesn't touch the follicle, so it can't change the hair's actual thickness, color, or how fast it grows. The appearance evens out again as the hair grows longer and the tip wears down naturally.
