Laser Hair Removal Burn - Permanent? Treatment?

Laser Hair removal burns normally are superficial and heal well over time. Sometimes they may cause skin discoloration such as hypo or hyperpigmentation that are usually temporary or sometimes permanent. I highly recommend keeping the affected area out of the sun until it is completely healed and do not scratch or pick at the area. Depending on how your skin heals, these things normally resolve anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months. Skin discoloration is what takes the longest to resolve. Definitely consult with the person who did your treatment in order to have it evaluated in person.

Clinical Context

Not all post-laser skin changes are the same. A true burn is thermal injury to the skin, often with prior blistering or crusting. Flat dark or light patches without blistering are usually pigment cells reacting to inflammation, not heat damage. Both can worsen with sun exposure, but treatment differs — burns need wound care, while pigment changes need sun protection and time to fade.
