When Will Macrolane Be Available in the US?
Macrolane won't be coming to the US market, and at this point it's off the table in Europe too. The manufacturer withdrew it from EU sale back in 2012 after breast surgeons raised concerns about the product creating calcifications within breast tissue as it broke down. Those calcifications look similar to the calcifications associated with early breast cancer on mammography, which makes future cancer screening more difficult to interpret. That risk, combined with the fact that hyaluronic acid fillers are gradually reabsorbed by the body, means any augmentation result would be temporary and the diagnostic picture muddied for years afterward.
There's also a practical volume problem. Facial filler treatments use a couple of milliliters; breast augmentation with a filler would require roughly fifty times that per side, at a cost that would dwarf implant surgery, without the safety data to back it. For durable, safe breast enhancement in the US, implants or fat transfer remain the options a board-certified plastic surgeon can offer you.
Clinical Context
Doctors evaluating a filler for breast use ask three things: does it interfere with mammograms, does its effect fade predictably, and can it scale safely from small facial volumes to full breast volumes. Macrolane failed all three—it caused calcifications that mimicked cancer signs on imaging, gradually dissolved, and needed far larger amounts than typical fillers. For these reasons it was pulled from sale and is not available for breast augmentation anywhere today.
