Why are the effects of Thermiva not more permanent?

The effects of the ThermiVa treatment are not permanent because our tissues are constantly remodeling. Though collagen production can be stimulated with this treatment, age, gravity and other factors still affect us over time.

The radiofrequency energy heats the tissue enough to trigger new collagen and elastin, but that new tissue is absorbed into the same ongoing turnover cycle as the rest of your body. As older collagen breaks down and is replaced, the firmness and tightness you notice after treatment will gradually soften, usually over several months. That's why most patients need periodic maintenance sessions to keep results going. If you notice results fading much faster than expected, or have any unusual symptoms, it's worth bringing up at a follow-up visit.

Clinical Context

The main trade-off with ThermiVa is that its benefits depend on living tissue that never stops renewing itself, so the same turnover that keeps vaginal tissue healthy also limits how long any single treatment's gains can last. The radiofrequency energy prompts new collagen and elastin production, but that tissue gets absorbed into an ongoing remodeling cycle rather than staying fixed in place. As older collagen breaks down and newer tissue takes its place, firmness and elasticity gradually soften, which is why periodic maintenance visits are usually needed to preserve results.
