Will I Develop an Infection if I Get Implants After Brazilian Butt Lift?
There is no increase in infection rate after a healed brazilian butt lift (that is 6 months or more after a brazilian butt lift). However, buttock implants carry an increased rate of complication including infection as _compared_ to a brazilian butt lift. You may wish to consider additional fat transfer as opposed to buttock implants. Be sure to discuss all the options with your plastic surgeon. It may also make sense to get additional opinions.
Clinical Context
Fat grafted during a BBL is living tissue that gains its own blood supply as it heals, so the body treats it much like normal tissue rather than a foreign object. A buttock implant is a permanent synthetic device placed in a surgical pocket; it has no blood supply of its own and depends on the surrounding tissue capsule for stability. Because bacteria can more easily attach to and persist on an implant's surface, implants generally carry a higher long-term infection risk than fat grafting.
