Will my Implants Drop and Look Normal?
Generally speaking, implants take three to six months to fully settle into place. Soft tissue swelling and tightness in the pectoralis muscle can all contribute to the implants sitting a bit high. Give yourself time. You should begin to see improvements in position as the weeks proceed. In our Dublin practice, we provide patients with guidance regarding the post-op course. Once the implants are fully settled, if one is higher than the other, surgery is required to create desired symmetry. Again, that distinction cannot be made at this point and time is required for the final appearance.
Clinical Context
As swelling goes down, the chest muscle relaxes, and the skin and tissue beneath the breast slowly stretch to accommodate the implant, it settles into a fuller, more natural position. This process varies from person to person, and often between your two sides, so one breast may look settled before the other. Most of this softening happens within the first few months, though full settling can take longer in some patients.
