Am I able to give birth naturally when I eventually do fall pregnant and how long should I wait?

Tummy tucks won't interfere with pregnancy however, pregnancy can undo some of the improvement that tummy tucks provide. Specifically patients may have increased loose skin, stretch marks or separation of the abdominal wall muscles. If you're planning on getting pregnant soon you may want to consider waiting! Be sure to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

Clinical Context

A tummy tuck repairs and sutures the abdominal muscles and removes excess skin. As tissue heals, it regains strength, but skin and muscle repairs don't have unlimited stretch capacity. Pregnancy after surgery can stretch the repaired muscles and skin again, potentially causing separation or loose skin to return. Vaginal delivery is generally still possible after a tummy tuck. Most surgeons recommend waiting until healing is well established and discussing individual timing and delivery plans with both your plastic surgeon and obstetrician.
