How Many Botox Units Are Needed for Laugh Lines?
Dosage can vary and needs to be customized for each patient but in our Tri-Valley practice in Dublin we typically use 8 - 16 units per side. The most important thing about an effective treatment is a skilled injector.
Clinical Context
Botox doesn't take effect immediately. Most patients notice softening of laugh lines within a few days, with full results by about two weeks as the treated orbicularis oculi muscle relaxes. Results are temporary, typically lasting three to four months, because nerve endings gradually regrow and reactivate the muscle. Patients who squint or smile more often may notice results fading a bit sooner than average.
