Botox side effects? Do I have anything to fear?

It's very common to be anxious before a new procedure but hopefully you will be reassured knowing that allergic reactions to Botox are rare. The injections are very localized in the specific target muscles. Follow your injectors post-treatment instructions, which usually include staying upright for a few hours and not massaging the area to minimize risk of diffusion.

Clinical Context

Botox side effects usually fall into three types. A true allergic reaction is rare and involves the immune system reacting to the injection itself. Bruising happens if a small blood vessel is nicked; it's temporary and purely cosmetic. A drooping eyelid or brow can occur if the toxin spreads to a nearby muscle before it takes effect, which relates to injection technique and placement, not an allergy. Knowing which type you're dealing with helps your provider decide how to manage it and how long it will last.
