Bulging masseter muscle after Botox, is this normal?
Some bulging or asymmetry in the first couple weeks after masseter Botox is common and usually not a red flag. The masseter is a thick, powerful chewing muscle, and toxin diffuses gradually through its fibers, so you can see uneven weakening while some areas are still contracting normally. That imbalance often looks like a bulge, especially with clenching. Give it the full two weeks for Botox to reach maximum effect before judging the result. Mild soreness or a feeling of weakness in the first few days is normal, and cool compresses can help. If, after two weeks, one area still looks overactive or asymmetric, a touch-up with additional units in the undertreated fibers usually evens things out. Persistent, significant bulging beyond that window, or any pain, should prompt a recheck with your injector. Since I can't examine the area in question here, an in-person look would let your injector map the muscle and tailor any adjustment.
Clinical Context
After masseter Botox, gentle asymmetry usually improves as the muscle weakens evenly over two weeks. Try clenching your jaw gently in a mirror: if the bulge appears mainly with clenching and softens at rest, that's normal, uneven settling. If it stays firm even when relaxed, or you have pain, let your injector know. A quick in-person check helps determine whether more time or a small touch-up is needed.
