Can Botox address an upper lip sneer?

Botox in one of the lip elevator muscles can relax the muscle to even out the sneer. A couple of units should help and the results take about 2 weeks for full results. This treatment area is considered off-label so make sure to see an experienced, board-certified provider for best aesthetic outcome.

Clinical Context

The upper lip 'sneer' usually comes from the levator labii superioris alaeque nasi, a small muscle beside the nose that lifts the lip and nostril together. Some people use this muscle more strongly or unevenly, which shows up as a curl on one side when smiling or talking. Because nearby muscles also help lift the lip, treatment doses are kept small and precise to soften the movement without affecting a natural smile.
